The Art Of Sleeping

from All The Weeping Cameras by The Jack McCoys

/

lyrics

They were snoring in the half-light
Every tentacle intertwined
The radiator wheezing
The orbit of the moon
Slicing through the twitching starlight

Night pouring in through every window
Unseen

They were worming through a sad and greasy breakfast
Did you see the way he watches her eat?

Dogs weaving in and out
Of the cars as they zip by
The camera’s crying eye

They were washed up with the seaweed
Like starfish or sand dollars
By some tidal wave
The sunshine crackling on them
The salt still drying

Rays gush across the driftwood
In a dream

They were zigzagging on soft patches of wet sand
Through every jag that snarled and slashed

Light screaming through the hole
The message is in code
The language is on fire
